This morning I heard a phrase on the radio that was new to me: proto-authoritarian.

Trump is authoritarian by nature, the Constitution and our laws be dammed, and the prefix "proto" means primitive and as yet unformed. The speaker described a "Proto-Authoritarian" clique developing in the White House and with four more years of Trump, we will be well on our way to becoming a Banana Republic without the bananas.
