One cucumber, $1.00, and one beefsteak tomato, $5.
Philadelphia Whipped Cream Cheese, $3.69
Container of Low Fat Milk, $5.49
One dozen eggs, brown, large $6.29
Gelson's Ground Sirloin $14.99 lb.
Atlantic Salmon Filet, $17.99 lb.
And the list goes on.
Not that Ralph's is reasonable anymore, we've paid through the nose to order online this past month, but Gelson's is ridiculous. It's all them fancy movie people south of the boulevard keepin' them in business is all I can say.
I don't shop there, but I once bought no-salt cottage cheese from them because nobody else carried it. It cost me $5.99 for a pound of cottage cheese.
Ralphs, a little more reasonable than Gelson's, is charging a percentage more on each item ordered online, I think the law allows 10% per item. And then there is the shopping fee, and the delivery charge, and the tip. And this while people are out of work. Some stores are nice enough to allow seniors to shop before regular hours, we get 1/2 hour at 6 a.m. Couldn't spare an hour? Only a few allowed in at a time. You wait outside on a long line, spaced 6 feet apart in the cold, rainy early morning. Thankfully, we have Bert with his industrial respirator who is shopping for us again, after several weeks of ordering online and paying a fortune for substitutions that we didn't want, charges that appeared for items we never got, etc. But Thank God, the main thing is that nobody here is sick with the virus.
I am grateful that we are all together, that we are in a nice home away from crowds, that there is gas, electric, and water, TV, phone and internet, no big earthquake, and enough of us to care of Mike, who fell on the wet floor as he got out of the shower tonight, and may have broken/dislocated his shoulder. One arm looks like it belongs to Arnold Schwartzenegger. He is miserable, but refuses to go to the ER. He is petrified of getting the virus as he is high risk. Good thing I had 3 tylenol and codeines left from when I had my teeth pulled. Tomorrow I will contact his doctor, but I'm sure they'll refuse him pain pills unless he goes in, and he absolutely will not set foot near a hospital clinic.
