Saving the economy would be keeping things running in as normal a manner as feasible. Right now that is not the case, restrictions are designed to keep people in their own homes as much as possible. Parks are closed, boating?fishing marinas closed (the kind of places that people can entertain themselves), most retail stores are closed with the exception of those that sell groceries. Letting old people die has nothing to do with the economy, it does have to do with the lack of hospital space and equipment. When these things are in short supply, it will be those that have the best chance to survive that will get the priority.
