Re: They're dropping out like... Mama
I find it hard to believe these young people want "everything" for free. Health Care and an education aren't "everything" - just my opinion. They want what other advanced nations are supplying their young people. Being buried in loans to attend the colleges/universities they choose isn't quite fair either. These schools don't exist for the kids of the wealthy only which is what it's seeming more like all the time. I've met several couples in TN who were years past their schooling yet still paying off their debt. They were in their 30s then. In other advanced nations these people are not buried in debt. I truly believe a better educated people are an asset to a nation. Same can be said for a healthier people due to free or affordable health care. Do you think people should go bankrupt over medical bills as they are now? How do you think that should be handled? To have a serious accident or develop a costly-to-treat disease can wipe out a lifetime of work leaving people with nothing but debt until they die or win the lottery.
I've been watching (as close as possible) what's going on and haven't come to the conclusion that our young people want everything for nothing. That seems to be the claim of Rep' memes on social media.
I would not mind paying a little more in taxes if it would save someone's life, or help youngsters from poor families get a good education.
I worked with a Vet from Peru in the 70s. His education was "free" but he had to serve the Gov for 2 years in areas where there were no veterinarians. He was taking care of livestock for people with no ability to pay. He had no debt after serving those 2 yrs. Surely our Gov could work something out beneficial to the student and the Gov also.
