It's too early to make any predictions but so far it seems it's about on par with the Influenza that we've known. You are right, once a connection cannot be made, anything is suspect. Some people have it with very little, if any, signs of illness but can be contagious. Anything touched or handled by them, no less coughing can be the cause of contamination. How do you backtrack every single interaction a person might have had? The only way I can think of, as ridiculous as it seems, is to put the country in place on hold and in quarantine for the two weeks of incubation time is takes for it to manifest itself or the germs on inanimate objects to die. A couple who had lived in China came back to Indiana and have placed themselves in self-imposed quarantine even though there are no signs of infection. Even with taking every precaution, they still have to get to stores late at night occasionally and money is exchanged, a break in their precautionary thread.
