A couple of years later, the husband had a problem and when he went to the doctor he found he had prostrate cancer in its early stages. In my experience, this is a cancer that is usually curable or not fatal at least for the several men I've known who've had it. I recall he was frightened for himself but more concerned with his wife. Within a week or two of the diagnosis, he went for a procedure. He complained of pain after it but within a week I got word that he had died. I believe his heart gave out rather than caused by the procedure. It was very strange that his wife had survived him and although I'm fuzzy on the time, I believe she was around for at least another year living by herself and managing fairly well. Her end was swift. She answered the door for a deliveryman and collapsed in front of him. He carried her to a couch but she was already gone. No long, drawn out hospital stay.
