Re: Seeing a orthopedic Onc.... Elle
I was diagnosed about 10 yrs ago now but had symptoms several years before. I finally found a Dr there in Smyrna who listened to me and sent me for all kinds of tests. I was seeing a NP before and now realize she didn't really give a flip to find what was wrong. One was a CT scan - and that scan showed what was causing the problem. I had the tumor removed and stayed in remission for almost 7 yrs. When it came back it wasn't where the original tumor was. It was in my pelvic bone just under the acetabulum. It fractured the joint and caused the pain that drove me to an Onc here - since it happened while snow birding here that winter. We soon left for TN and I went back to my old Onc there, had radiation and was fine for about 6 months. Then it was back again. More radiation didn't have much of an effect on it the second time around. Chemo knocked it back for about 6 months, but it came back again. I can't get rid of it this time. The Keytruda doesn't seem to be working either. Each time it comes back it does more damage. Each time I can't put as much weight on that leg.
They may tell me up at Shands that they can't do anything for me. That there's nothing left to try. A lot us reach that point. We're sent home with pain killers and left to die.
