Re: A trial with no witnesses?
The House called the witnesses and took depositions which is their job. They did not allow any of the Reps in the House to call witnesses or in some cases even allow them in the room. Those they called were all "Trump Haters" and none had any first hand knowledge of wrong doing. When they present it to the Senate, their conclusion is supposedly complete. When and if the Senate calls for witnesses and at this point they don't know whether they will, they can call whomever they please and the House does not necessarily want some of them called. The House findings were a sham and purely partisan. None of the Reps voted for impeachment and neither did one Dem.
Trump didn't get the treatment other Presidents got. It was a kangaroo proceeding. Any one following it who didn't have a preconceived idea of impeaching him from the get-go recognizes it. A waste of time and money, the same as the Russian collusion investigation. The Senate will give two days for the House to present their case and two days to the White House to refute the charges. At the end they will vote and the trial will either be over and Congress can get back to the country's business or they'll want more information, witnesses will be recalled and the White House gets to call in theirs and it will drag on for weeks and weeks. This is all about the 2020 election.
