It fronts the main road that has a freeway entrance/exit a few miles away, and it's 1/2 hour from Edwards Air Force Base, where many people are employed. That's where the space flights land. I'm seeing various codes for the zoning of properties offered for sale within a few blocks, i.e., residential, agricultural, and I know there are businesses operating within several of the properties. One was upholstery, another was car parts, and as the road runs many miles in either direction, there are all kinds of businesses further down. There is a raceway a few miles west, and the city of Lancaster, population 160,000 is 20 miles in a straight shot on the freeway.
Bob bought the property in 1990, when ill health forced him to retire, and he no longer had use for his earth moving equipment. He couldn't find a suitable storage for them in L.A. County, there were few spots, and the cost was outrageous, so he bought the 5 acres in the next county where restrictions were nil, and moved them all up there. It also gave him a place to go a couple of days a week, to putter with his machinery, and he also bought cars in need of repair as tinkering was his hobby. He wanted to grow peaches, but a small experiment failed, and he was going to move my 25-year-old home up there after the earthquake, when we were rebuilding something new. But he took very sick and landed in the hospital for 7 months. They didn't think he would survive. He did, lived 6 more years, but as a complete invalid. So there went the hopes and dreams of his retirement, and anything he might have done on the property.
