My aunt started out with some addresses and names but found no trace of the family. It was like they never existed. No one remembered them. She enjoyed her trip there but was disappointed that she failed to find any relatives. Speaking Lithuanian was an asset for her. It made it easier speaking the language, but was no help finding anyone.
I don't think there was any Jewish connection with my Lith' relatives. Things change in 50 or 60 years. I saw how quickly the neighborhood where my parents lived in Elmhurst changed. Granny's old neighborhood in Vilnius may have gone through a change. Grandpa's area was no longer rural as when he left it.
What we all found odd, and I think I mentioned it here before, was even the local churches had no record of the their families.
