I drove about 10 miles to the Bookclub today, passing a few trees that had turned color, in particular, the liquid ambar, but the deciduous trees won't lose their leaves for another couples of months. Flowers are blooming and everything is still green. The temperature yesterday was 90, today in the high 80s, but very dry and clear and comfortable. The skies are deep blue.
Bookclub was one of the best meetings we've had, and I really enjoyed it. We had a fabulous spread, it was like old times. There was Pollo Loco chicken, and shrimp with a dipping sauce, deviled eggs, a green salad with delicious crispy things, and a large bowl of quinoa with a tangy dressing. I brought a throw-back to the 50s, a baked bean and frankfurter casserole made with finely chopped onions and celery, and someone brought homemade mac and cheese. There was also a loaf of fancy artisan bread. For dessert we had pumpkin pie with your choice of chocolate or vanilla whipped cream, and the most delicious rice pudding with a topping of crushed Butterfinger. We drank iced tea, and your choice of regular or Decaf coffee.
Then on to the living room, where the candy dishes were full of Reese's peanut butter cups. Some of us read the book, and others didn't, and it didn't matter, we were all so full and happy to be together that we laughed about everything and nothing and talked about the new TV shows and the handsomest young actors! We talked about having lunch one day at the San Antonio Winery, and a few ladies without other commitments chose a movie to see later on and a place to go to dinner afterwards. Our leader's scans were negative, her cancer is in remission, and that was the best and most important news of the day.
