Re: Three (3) Teeth Less. ... Rich'
Over four years of steroids have caused me a lot of problems, and one of them is teeth. It robs the body of calcium, and I think that's contributing to why so many of my teeth have become problematic all at once. I just had two upper teeth pulled last month, dentist made me a partial that hurt, she did several adjustments, it still hurts, I am walking around most of the time like a picket fence. Something seems to be wrong with the gum over another "iffy" molar, it will probably need to come out, and there are two teeth on the other side that I already know are next. I just didn't want to pull so many teeth, and on both sides of the mouth, at once. Anyway, the oral surgeon put in a bone graft on one of the teeth in case I should decide for implants and I have. I can't seem to wear the partial comfortably, maybe it's a simple reason, but everyone tells me even if you can, it will wreck the teeth it's attached to. I'm looking at probably $30,000 by the time all the missing teeth are replaced with implants, but I'm going at it as slowly as I can, one side at a time. I am going to be 81 next month, and I know it sounds crazy, but I can't seem to wear partials. I didn't have luck with a lower years ago, either. I couldn't even speak without dislodging it, and every movement of my tongue lifted it, so I never wore it, so I'm missing some back teeth on one side. The upper partial is better, but it's irritating to the gum, and I can't eat with it. I don't wear it, except for a few hours when absolutely necessary.
My dentist is double-talking me left and right and making assumptions about why it hurts. I'm getting tired of it, but I think it's just her way of getting out of saying nothing can be done. My father hated his false teeth and never wore them unless they were going out. My husband hated his, kept them in his shirt pocket, bent over and they fell out and broke. He could have gotten them remade for nothing (V.A.) but didn't bother. He wouldn't have worn them. So I've not seen encouraging situations. I hope my mouth heals properly and I'm a candidate for implants in a few months.
