It would take pages and pages to research, state the sources, and write a complete history, something I certainly don't have the time to do. But there are few facts that can be stated.
Palestine is the name given to Israel by the Romans. The people who lived in the area known as Palestine were Jews. They were the original Palestinians. From the time Rome exiled the Jews the area was ruled by many entities, one after the other, and none of them were the people called Palestinians today.
When Israel became a state, they offered citizenship to the Palestinians who wanted to stay. Currently, 21% of the population of Israel are Arab/Palestinian Israeli citizens. They have representatives in government, just like everyone else. The refugees are those, and the descendants of those, who left their homes out of fear of what might happen to them in the newly created State of Israel. What a mistake! But all the Arab countries were encouraging their fear, and instigating them to leave. And what have they done for them in the 70 years they've been refugees? Absolutely nothing.
There have been several wars started by the many Arab countries against Israel since its birth. They've lost them all. And the Palestinian leaders over the years have not agreed to any peace plan offered. They're another story. The Palestinian people have suffered because of them. The terrorist organizations, Palestinian and otherwise, have created a climate whereby Israel has to be very defensive to survive, i.e., building walls to keep the terrorists and suicide bombers out.
Now people have forgotten, in many cases don't know, why the Palestinian people are suffering. They blame the Jews. But if you look at the facts of why there are refugees all these years, and the fact that Israel is constantly being attacked, the fact that all Israel's attempts to make peace were rebuffed, any thinking person would have to come to the conclusion that Israel has to constantly defend itself against implacable enemies, and that their policies are a reflection of this undeniable fact.
The surrounding Arab world is huge. Why have they not alleviated the suffering of their brethren, the Palestinian people? Why did they urge and encourage them to give up their land and their lives, and then leave them as refugees for 70 years? Why has all the money given over time to their leaders not helped to give them a better life? Does anybody ever ask those questions? It seems to be much easier to blame the Jews. So what else is new?
