Everyone who grew up in N.Y.C. has heard of Barneys. From a low end rag merchant established ages ago on 7th Ave, it is now a high end rag merchant occupying nine floors in a Madison Ave. building. The problem is competition from the internet and rent that totals $30 million a year and that's a lotta rags. Barneys, for the second time in its history, is considering bankruptcy.
I never shopped Barneys but all the Barneys radio commercials I heard as a kid growing up in N.Y.C made the name familiar to me.
I wish Barneys well.
