I would never have used a gypsy cab anywhere else but the Woodside location is a hub for the IND-IRT and LIRR and gypsy cabs were a familiar sight lined up at the curb. I used a little discretion on the visual condition of the car and the driver but in hindsight, it could have been a dangerous decision. There had been no reports of incidents that I knew of at the time. Now fares charged was another story. Before getting in, you'd given the driver your destination and asked what they would charge. I knew the going price for a yellow cab and what other gypsy cabs had charged for the route so if were in those boundaries, it was a go.
