I have never taken a cab in all my adult life. I think I remember something from when I was a small child with my parents in Manhattan, but it's fuzzy. I haven't ever heard the term "gypsy cab" that I can remember, until this thread. I googled it and it was scary, both for the passengers and the drivers. I read one account of a driver changing the fare mid-way, locking the doors of the cab so the people couldn't get out and refusing them their luggage in the trunk. Then I read an account of the many drivers assaulted, robbed, and killed by their fares and others in the bad neighborhoods they work in. I left New York still a teenager, and I'm so glad I did.
