Section 8 is the government that limits the rental fee to 30% of income. The government pays the rest. Some landlords see it as a cash cow. In L.A. they often demand an extra fee from immigrants who don't know the law. There Section 8 is regarded as a nuisance. Here it's regarded has a good program that lets the working poor live in decent housing and neighborhoods. A rental agent we know said, "What good does it do to have poor people living where they only see other poor people?". We had a Section 8 tenant, a single woman with 4 kids, for years. She took great care of the house and yard. As the kids "age out" the family had to move to a smaller place. The mom was looking forward to the day when she could have her own place, no matter how small. We were able to help someone bring her kids up in a neighborhood known as a "good family place."
