Re: Finding jobs.... Carol
My daughter was out of work for a long time during the recession. It was very maddening. She'd apply for jobs online all day, every day. She'd get as far as a third interview on the phone and then never hear from the company again. This went on forever. She was able to work part time for some online businesses, but it still didn't pay all of her bills. She finally got a part time job with a nonprofit, she started with a few hours and when they saw her capabilities they increased her hours to almost full time. It still didn't pay enough, but at least she had enough hours to qualify for benefits. She also wrote profiles for match.com as a part time job to supplement her income. It still wasn't enough to pay rent and bills. She shared, and still shares, and apartment. Sometimes we'd have to give her a supplement so she wouldn't end up homeless. She was listed with several employment agencies in addition. The job she has now she found for herself. Fandango pays well, appreciates her abilities and has great benefits. She didn't think she'd still need to share an apartment in her 40s but that's the way it is. Just telling her story about how difficult it was for adults with experience and in demand skills to find a job with pay that she could live on. She even has replenished her savings account after having used it up during the recession. Nancy
