I don't know what your area looks like as to population and job opportunities, what kind of business and industry is located there, but I never would go into L.A. and nor will they. The Valley is it. Things have gotten so crowded that it can take over an hour just to drive from one side of the Valley to another in rush hour. L.A. can be two hours each way. And looking into the sun rising in the morning, and setting in the afternoon makes the drive that much worse. So they will only work in the Valley, and that's truly sensible.
By the way, I had that same decision to make when I worked. I was offered a job downtown as admin asst to a vice chancellor of the community college district. The pay was higher than what I made as admin asst to the local college vice prez 7 miles from home. But I would have had to buy a new car, spend more on gas, and drive 3-4 hours each day commuting on busy freeways, sun in my eyes each way. It just did not figure, so I refused and stayed local. I'm not sorry and I understand why the girls will not go into L.A. either. Quality of life is worth more than money, if you have any choice at all.
