Re: The good and the bad.
The pic of the running kids is only a few of the line-up. Block parties are very common here and we had them in Middle Village. The purpose of them, at least to me, is to socialize and get to know your neighbors. That's not what this one is about. People invite their friends, set up tables/tents in their driveways and party. When they first started not long after I moved in, almost every house joined in and there were only the kids who lived on the block and maybe those of their guests. Every house on the block or at least the majority has to sign a consent form in order to get a permit to close the street. All cars must be off the street 11 am to 11 pm and they are barricaded. Kids are allowed to roam within the barricaded area. Some are quite young. Now they probably mention it to friends in school and groups of strange kids show up because the last couple of years it's gotten progressively worse. The strangers are probably 12-14 years old. I do know that when they come around next year I'm going to voice that they need to plan their entertainment elsewhere. My neighbor chose to get out of here and they were lining up in his driveway. Other than being annoying, there's a liability factor if they trip, fall or get injured when they are running wild on your property.
