Re: This has got to be stopped!
Word spreads that our borders are porous and we don't have the facilities to hold them all. These numbers are those we've caught. who knows how many actually get through with smugglers. Those from the Congo claimed they flew to Brazil and then worked their way to join the caravans. The Mexicans at first were complicit in helping them get through Mexico but they're tired of it now. Now, with the threat of the tariff, they've stepped up trying to stop them at their border and have agreed to have those waiting for disposition of asylum claims wait in Mexico. When seeking asylum, they are supposed to apply in the first free country reached (which would be Mexico) but I'm not sure if those terms were accepted or not.
When these people come in, they are not checked for diseases, if they are not showing signs of illness. Those from the Congo are especially dangerous because of the Ebola outbreaks but they are treated the same as anyone else rather than holding them in quarantine for the incubation period for Ebola. There are no reports of anyone coming down with Ebola todate but in the crowded conditions it would wreak havoc and should be considered as a precaution.
