Re: The airport part #2
Oh dear...not a great way to start a new beginning. When I was traveling frequently for business years ago, occasionally I'd run into weather problems or some other delay but it wasn't frequent or bad enough to be a turn-off. I can only recall three memorable incidents..One the scheduled pilot didn't show up and there was a considerable wait until they found another and he got there. The wait was bad enough but I was supposed to meet someone coming in from California in Memphis and we'd drive together to Adamsville. On another trip with my boss, we'd hired a small plane to take us somewhere. Three times, we'd start down the runway and the engine stalled. At that point, neither of us trusted taking off in that plane. Wound up renting a car and driving the two or three hours it took to get to our destination. The third incident was funny in hindsight. I had started working for a small company owned by two wealthy and sort of eccentric bachelors. The good part was that my job was like living the life of the rich and famous..I had a huge office, free lunches brought in from some of the best deli's in NYC. Use of a house on Fire Island on my vacation, free tickets to Broadway shows. Most of the time, I was treated like a Queen. The bad part was the eccentricities that had to be dealt with. We traveled nothing but first class. I usually traveled alone but on this one, a boss traveled with me. When we arrived at the airport, we discovered that there was a mishap on the first class confirmations. While my boss went to straighten the matter up, I went to load myself up with flight insurance as I customarily did on business flights with two small kids at home. As we lined up to board the plane, he turned to me and said he wasn't going..with the confirmation mishap and me buying flight insurance, he got spooked. His partner picked me up in Memphis and couldn't stop laughing.."He was afraid to fly but he let you go". It was a long time before he lived it down.
