Elmhurst wasn't taken over by Central Americans to my knowledge. Most were South Americans with a big influx of Columbians. There were a lot of drug wars and violence going on in Columbia in the 80's. Families were being killed just for being related to someone who crossed the gang/s. I knew a young boy whose father was involved with drugs in Columbia. His mother and he came here to escape any retributions. When he was in his 20's and married, things seemed to have calmed down and he decided to go to Columbia to visit his father. I don't know what took place but it seemed to have been OK. When he was due to return, he called his wife telling her he was on his way to the airport. When she met the plane, he wasn't on it. I don't know how much investigation was done but he was never seen or heard from again nor were remains ever found.
