Re: Charity begins at home - Elle
GREED is what caused this to happen. Unless something is done about getting low-cost housing built this will continue. The numbers of homeless will grow. LA isn't the only place people are living in tents because they can't afford the outrageous rents charged today. Instead of rebuilding other countries we should invest right here. Get lost cost housing built for these people. Tall buildings could house thousands in any city. All they need is a room with a hot plate and tiny student fridge. A small RV type toilet and shower. Hire more social workers to get those mentally fit enough on some kind of aid if necessary and into housing. Those who can work can be paid to keep parks and other city areas clean.
Many people come up with good ideas how to help stop or slow this problem but no one in Gov cares. The billions keep going overseas. Many of these street people were institutionalized in the past. Now we can see what a failure closing those places was.
Nothing here has changed as far as the homeless go. All those new low-wage/no-benefit jobs have not made much of a difference.
