I can't say what herbs will do what. Lydia Pinkham's have to do with menstruation. I can't say if someone thinks they may be pregnant whether they'd have any effect or whether they just help to regulate a menstrual period. They were never something I was aware of. Most women I knew back in the day, other than using condoms, diaphragms or coils, refrained from sexual activity during their calculated ovulation time. I recall reading about birth control pills for the first time in Redbook on a bus as I went for a prenatal check for my daughter in l960. I got very excited about them, not for myself but for neighbors. I could hear the couple arguing through the walls when she wouldn't comply with his wishes. They were Catholic and artificial means of birth control were off the table. At that time I recall I thought they'd be an acceptable alternative which later proved to be false.
