Prevention isn't as easy as it sounds. Image if every kid had to pass through something like they have at the airports. It would be costly and time consuming.
A guard at every school entrance? What good is that when they hide the guns in backpacks. It would take hours for the armed guards to go through all the handbags and backpacks.
Doing something about the weirdos and oddball isn't the answer either since probably 98% wouldn't think of killing people. What would the school system do with those oddball kids? Should they be sent to special schools with armed guards and armed teachers at even greater cost in case one flips his cookies?

We own a 44 pistol and a shotgun. We don't own the kind of guns used by the armed services designed to kill a large number of people as fast as possible. Neither of us have a history of violence or mental illness. Neither of us are a felon. Nether of us are teenagers. So as you know we are not against outlawing (certain) guns. That's not what gun control is about despite Trump's endless lies. You didn't see Obama confiscate everyone's guns like the Rep's had foolish gullible or outright stupid people believe he would, did you?
No one needs an AK-47 assault rifle for rabbit hunting or even deer hunting.
