Let me guess your lack of concern includes the environment and Trump's loosening of regulations that were put in place to safeguard us all. Again to help the wealthy, not the average American. With Trump it's all about money. Profit. He's regressive and promotes dirty energy. Do you? While other countries move ahead with clean energy he promotes the opposite. And the beat goes on.
The current minimum wage in Florida is $8.46 per hour. Take out taxes and Health Ins if the person can afford it. That is not enough to live on here unless one rents in an area few would desire to live - if they can find something at all. The public transportation here, if it passes where people are living, is $3 a day. So take off another $15 a week. One woman I met at the old CG told me they're in a tent because when she worked, the cost of baby sitters made it impractical. No one watches kids for free. They finally moved up to a rented bus conversion.
How many move up from flipping burgers or washing cars or stacking shelves at Dollar General is unknown. If that were the case we wouldn't have people living out in the ONF and in tents in CGs. They would all be moving up the line to better paychecks. I don't see that happening. Some I'm sure do manage to move up the ladder, but not most of them. Too bad we don't have affordable education here like in other more progressive countries.
By stranger I meant Bert is not a blood relative. He's a boyfriend. Stop trying to make it sound like something it isn't. You're starting to sound paranoid.
It's not insulting to say your kids could not live on their own because it was YOU who posted here back then that all the affordable apts were taken by aliens. Your son soon got sick, but they were already living with you. That includes one daughter who is unable to work for psychological reasons. Apparently the one who lived like a millionaire with her wealthy ultra orthodox husband. And as I understand it, the only one who had children.
Your daughters were already with you when Mike got sick. They didn't choose to double up or triple up to share the rent. They moved in with you, something most people in their situation at the time have no access too - a relative with a large home where they could live rent free.
Of course many like your kids end up homeless. Where would Mike and the daughter unable to work and refuses to seek professional help be if you could or would not have taken them in? I assume she's getting a SSDI check - that is not enough to rent even a cheap motel room by the week. Where would the other 2 (plus Burt) have gone when they lost their jobs if not for you taking THEM in? you claimed all affordable apts were taken - where would they have gone to live? A homeless shelter? Not everyone has a wealthy (on paper you claim) mother to take them in as you did. I can't believe you think the people who end up homeless choose to be homeless, especially those with children.
The mentally ill unable to function and so live on the streets are another matter altogether. Thank Reagan for that. They were once safely cared for in institutions and not dying in alleyways. They were no threat to others or themselves when confined.
You need not drop names to impress because that doesn't impress me and probably anyone else reading this board.
I'm sure Mike is "well off" as you claim since he hasn't worked in years. He has no private health Ins. SSDI doesn't pay much. What of the daughter who refuses help? How well off can she be on SSDI? I'm sure the other two are making 6 figure incomes even without college educations. They got wealthy fast considering a few years back they couldn't afford their own apts. Glad they all so well off.
Your so-called greater knowledge of the backroads was many many years ago. How long has Bob been gone now? How long since Mike got sick and could not longer travel the backroads with you?
I can assure you my son is much better off than two of yours and perhaps the other two as well who are employed. They never depended on living rent free with a parent. They always supported themselves in one of the most expensive cities in the country. How can you compare yours with my son and his SO?
