By the way, we had a foreign student office at the college when I worked as secretary to the dean of students, prior to my work as assistant to the vice president. I met students from all over the world, including one from Sri Lanka. These students hung around the Campus Center, where our office was located, and all sorts of student events were held. They were far from home, and their connection to the college was stronger than the average American student, for whom it was only a part of life. We got to be very close to them. The young man from Sri Lanka was one of our favorites, charming and personable.
