Re: Their lease... (what happens...) Elle
That's it, the bills keep coming in. Unemployment checks barely cover the rent. They know if they tried to stay in NYC they have a chance of becoming homeless or moving to an area no decent person would want to live in - in the future. The crash a few years ago really hurt them. Both had good jobs at the time. He worked for a car importer in Manhattan (had been there for years) and she had a good office job she liked. I can't recall what her title was. I don't think they ever financially recovered from the loss of those jobs or were able to find the same kind of work. As you know my son is a private kind of person and I feel I'm prying if I ask questions.
I too would rather sit on whatever they have since if they needed to borrow money we could lend it to them. But not thousands of dollars. You know the place they rent from couldn't care less about people's financial situations. You sign a lease - you pay!
When we pass away they alone will inherit this place since my IRA, started long before I met RR, paid for it. They'll have a home in an area they like for the rest of their lives. No rent, no HMOs, just insurance and taxes.
They should be able to start to save again since they'll be living rent free in the RV for as long as they want to live with us.
