We had all the lawns redone with new sod a couple of years ago and all the things that are supposed to be done have been done each year. Don't have to mention how expensive that was. We have a neighbor on one side who does nothing except mowing. His lawn is green with weeds and I believe this blight started from there. On the other side of us, the neighbor does take reasonable care of his main lawn but a shared strip from his driveway isn't given the same attention. When I check out my side and see something that needs to be pulled, I'll handle anything on his side that is noticeable. The invasive weed first became noticeable after we had sidewalks put in, growing in the areas where the soil had become disturbed and I pulled what I saw but with the grass growing season, it was difficult to see. I wasn't able to putter around last Fall when it stopped growing and treat what might be there but we bought a herbicide that was recommended. It needed to be applied when the ground temperature was at least 50 degrees and we haven't had consistent temperatures in that range. When we got back from Florida, the damn stuff had taken off and you could really see how invasive it had been. George did a test patch on the side of the house to see how it reacts today.
I'm only really concerned about the front lawn at this time..the dog up until now has had free range in the back and that has created it's own problem because she has her favorite spots but reseeding should be enough. With this new life change, she'll have to be on leash at all times and so we've already started to leash her in back. It should help because we can direct her to the least destructive areas of the yard rather than visible areas.
Lawn maintenance won't be a concern for us in the new place. We only have about 3 ft. in front and back where can plant. At this time, the only planting I might
do will be in pots in the Florida room.
