Thanks Bill, Earl was a true Gem to be around, many Woodcock passed through his hands. He will be remembered.

Very sad to hear about Earl's passing. Back in the late 80's I was just getting back into hunting when a friend of mine who had a Brittany encouraged me to join him on a pheasant hunt in Iowa. I had never hunted behind a pointing dog before and when I saw that Brittny slam some nice points I was hooked/ I didn't much care for the Brittany as I found them to be a little aloof. I did a little research and found that English Setters were bird finding machines with good manners to match. I found an ad for an English Setter pup bred by a gentleman who lived a couple of hundred miles away in Detroit Lakes, MN. That was Earl Johnson. He had bred his female Moccasin Wood Daisy to Pat;s Blazer Banjo and I acquired Redwoo Pette. Earl sent me home with a starter bag of puppy chow and a copy of the Pointing Dog Journal. I didn't know then that there was a Stokley Diablo Jake connection and Pete truned out to be a great hunter and companion. I thank Earl for getting me interested in this breed and I have had several since then. Some of my Setters have had connections with Stok;ley of course, Spring Garden Keeper, Still Meadows Jim and my current ES has Tomoka blood. Thanks Earl and I am hoping that you are meeting up with some of your pups and chasing lots of birds.
