Advice on having or not an outside dog

Posted by Irish holy water on 8/12/2021, 9:38 am

Hi all, looking for some advice/guidance on to have or not an outside dog. Below are my household limitations.
    1. Wife is allergic to dogs and won’t tolerate an inside dog
    2. 3 roaming chickens in backyard
    3. Dog loneliness being kept outside
    4. I’m retired and have ample time to spend with best friend
    5. I live in the Midwest so it gets cold here
    6. I’d like a started pup/dog

Any guidance would be very much appreciated

My thoughts are: I have had an outside dog in a cold climate and had heat in the dog house. That worked ok. You can buy nice insulated dog houses and install a hound heater to keep it warm in cold weather.Set up a kennel with an indoor (garage e.g.) and outdoor run. Don't select a breed that has short hair. As far as loneliness is concerned, get two dogs. Check the laws in your state. I see people with mainly hounds chained out to dog houses, probably without heat. Some states have regs that might forbid that.

Not having to deal with an allergy problem, all our dogs in the past decades have been in the house.

Divorce the wife and bring the dog inside you'll be much happier.
