Hi Wes... Marietta is a nice town. My brother-in-law went to college there, and my mom used to work in Parkersburg (we are from WV). I don't live in the Ohio Valley anymore, and because grouse are scarce, it seems like there aren't many bird hunters around anymore. If you check out the Upland Journal message board, there are several Ohio guys on there & they seem to find a good number of woodcock.

It’s a small world and yes I’ll agree the birds are pretty scarce anymore I got into bird hunting in the mid to late 90’s and they’re still was a few birds I’m too stubborn to give up lol and there’s nobody anymore that bird hunts around me that I know of. Do you have dogs?

I-77 is the key to owning a bird dog in Marietta.

Get on it and get out of the area. North to 70 and then west for several hours

Yeah, I've got a young setter (1st bird dog of my own) here on the couch with me. I'm pretty far up in PA, though I do slip down and hunt WV some, even though the grouse are spotty there and in limited habitat, b/c my parents live in central WV now. I don't get back to the Ohio Valley much anymore. We do still have property in Wetzel and Marion Counties--used to be good bird hunting but now there's hardly any left, between mature timber and WNV. Great deer hunting though. My grandfather raised a long string of setters in Wetzel in the heyday of grouse hunting (when 30 flushes was just a regular day).
