The Coverdog Awards Program Sponsored by Purina will be adding two additional awards beginning with the 2026/2027 field trial year. Many of you are aware that the current awards include the Seminatore, Flanagan and the English Setter Awards all specific to English Setters. We are happy to announce a similar award program specific for pointers.

To do this we are aiming to raise money to perpetuate the continued funding of a new derby and shooting dog award. Our goal is to raise $20,000 for each award (total $40,000). This is a lofty goal, but we have over $23,000 currently pledged. As money is raised, it will be placed in a 4% money market account where we will be able to give each award winner $500 and pay for plaques each year. Once we reach our goal of $40,000, we will no longer be asking for donations. In the coming weeks we will be reaching out to all the Coverdog clubs along with other clubs for their support and donations.

We would also like to announce the formation of a committee of three people aimed to keep the dogs and awards the focus. The committee will follow the same rules adopted by the Coverdog Awards Program. The committee will only be responsible for the English Setter, Seminatore, Flanagan and the Pointer awards. There will be a representative from each of the three regions. Northeast representative Owen Comeau, Mid-Atlantic Bruce Mueller, and the Lake States region Tim Kaufman. When one of these representatives can no longer fulfill their responsibilities, a person from the same region will be sought out.
