Roger L. Hoover Jr., 76, of Tyrone, passed away Wednesday morning at his residence, after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Roger L. Sr. and Lillian (Downing) Hoover.
He married Cathy Mannino on Dec. 19, 1970, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years; three children: Jacob Hoover (Rachel) of Lubbock, Texas, Lillian Miller of Tyrone and Elizabeth Kenes (Justin) of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren: Linus, Emori, Dusty, Caleb and Linden; six siblings: Mark Hoover (Mary) of Golden, Colo., Priscilla Davidson of Ramey, Elizabeth Morris (Dan) of Myerstown, Jennifer Hileman, Laura Clancy (Jim) and Maria Zupon (Rick), all of Altoona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Molly J. Hoover.
Roger was a 1967 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served during the Vietnam War.
He was a self-employed entrepreneur, specializing as a hunting and fishing guide. Roger also was the owner and operator of Roger Hoover Kennels, Tyrone, where he enjoyed training dogs.
Roger enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or services.
