Northwoods Atlas a.k.a. “Jet”
It is with a very heavy heart that I must let you all know that our dog Northwoods Atlas a.k.a. “Jet” passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly last Thursday. In the early morning hours, I ran Jet on a short exercise session like we have done hundreds of times before. Shortly after we got home Michelle and I could tell that something was seriously wrong with what we think were gastrointestinal indicators and we immediately rushed him to our local vet hospital where several vets worked on him but unfortunately after several hours he passed away. All of this happened very quickly, and we still do not know exactly how or what happened. Michelle and I elected to take Jet’s remains down to the University of Minnesota for a necropsy to help determine what happened to bring on this tragic event. We are obviously completely heartbroken about the loss of the sweetest dog we have ever owned and are trying to find some closure. We are hopeful the diagnostics lab will be able to provide us with some answers and we have been told that the full report takes a couple of weeks so at this time I unfortunately do not have any answers.
I am grateful to all the wonderful people I have met in the Cover Dog Trial World, so many of you were welcoming and helpful as Jet and I took on this new sport and I truly appreciate that. I feel like Jet was the reason why I met so many of you as we traveled throughout the country to the many cover dog venues. As he began to succeed in this game, I felt like I was just along for the ride, and it has been a great ride. I am hopeful that I will get a chance to see some of you at events this fall season but quite honestly, I am not sure what my future holds as I contemplate how to move on from this tragic loss of this special dog taken in the prime of his life. As you can imagine, I have a huge hole in my heart from this gut-wrenching loss so if I seem distant in the coming days, please know it is only because I am trying to process all that has happened in a very short time. I appreciate you all keeping my family in your thoughts in the days ahead.
