Bedstuy:
Surprising trade with Topeka threw everyone off at the draft, moving down 3 spots from 3 to 6 and missing out on 3B Mark Vientos or OF Lawrence Butler (both needs for Bedstuy) to select CF Brenton Doyle. They pick up a few Mets SP and Got an OF in Wilyer Abreau. Good prospect in CF Max Clark for the future.
Grade B-
Value Pick: Doyle, and Abreau
Wildcard Pick: Jason Foley is part of a possible closer committee. Who emerges?
California:
Drafts best available player in Mark Vientos when he was looking to fill an OF position. Dean also gets 3 setup RP when a closer was needed. Not much was available, however.
Grade: B-
Value Pick: Vientos, Hodge, Estrada
Wildcard Pick: Colby Thomas, Deyvision De Los Santos
Chicago:
Only 3 picks in the first five round. Selected some good prospects from what was left, got the CF handcuff Jake McCarthy to pair with Alek Thomas, and threw some darts and was trying to hit a bullseye. Only time will tell if any actually hit or get close.
Grade: C
Value Pick: Jake McCarthy, and Dean Kremer
Wildcard Pick: RP Beau Brieske and RP Justin Anderson
Colorado:
Draft a closer Ryan Walker and got the Pirates SP that he wanted in Jared Jones and Bubba Chandler. 2B Christian Moore has the power but was ranked more as a 4th round pick instead of 1st rounder. Caglianone has the power, does he develop the rest of his game for MLB.
Grade: B
Value Pick: 2B Brenden Donovan (after cutting him last year) and C Joey Bart to pair with Henry Davis
Wildcard Pick: Joe Caglianone could be really good or only be a HR hitter.
Connecticut:
Drafted one player in 9th round from Boston! Go Figure!
Grade: INC (Incomplete)
Florida:
Got one of the best SP Schwellenbach in draft. Then drafted a bunch of prospects that he couldn't pass up but didn't help his 2025 lineup. Solid prospects filling the 2B hole on the roster, and a few others. Drafted the last relevant Dodger SP Tony Gonsolin to pair with all the others.
Grade: C+
Value Pick: 1B Bryce Eldridge since he needed a younger 1B
Wildcard Pick: SP Grant Holmes if he makes the rotation and 2B Otto Lopez was an interesting/desperate selection.
Harlem:
Selects the co-closer in Justin Martinez to pair with AJ Puk. Selected a starting CF in JJ Bleday and got some interesting SPs along with two very good prospects in De Vries and Condon.
Grade: B+
Value Pick: CF JJ Bleday and SP Jose Soriano
Wildcard Pick: SP JP Sears and RP JoJo Romero
Indiana:
With no picks in the first half of the draft, it was tough to get much help for the roster. SP Luis Ortiz and Casey Mize will help the rotation but missed out on getting RP help or a backup CF.
Grade: C
Value Pick: SP Casey Mize to pair with the 3 other Detroit SP on the roster.
Wildcard: SS Xavier Edwards with speed and no power and SS Jesus Made is very young and years away.
Louisiana:
Selects the two Houston SP in Arrighetti and Ronel Blanco to pair with the other Houston SP. Trading for closer Fairbanks and selecting setup guy Uceta was a smart play most likely. Drafted Massey to pair with India to have both KC 2B solidifies the position.
Grade: C+
Value Pick: Both Houston SP and Uceta
Wildcard: RP Hunter Bigge in the minors, and Wenceel Perez needs to take advantage of the injuries in Detroit.
Matawan:
Selects a closer in Trevor Megill with 1st overall pick. Drafts Heliot Ramos, who might be good but in Matawan will probably be cursed. Along with OF Big Christmas and his power. Got aka SP Tyler Black, he meant Tobias Myers from Brewers to pair with his couple other Brewers SP. Also got a bunch of setup RP but traded away his 2nd closer.
Grade: C
Value Pick: SS Jacob Wilson-ath, SP Clay Holmes-nym cut by California, C Ivan Herrera
Wildcard Pick: DH Jonathan Arranda, OF Jhonkensy Noel
Morris County:
Did relatively well with all of his picks. The dedication alone to make the draft overnight both Friday and Saturday nights say it all. Kristan Campbell at 24th, RP Calvin Faucher should start as closer, 2B Tyler Fitzgerald should have an everyday job if he keeps playing like last year.
Grade: A for his Dedication
Value Pick: C Conner Wong (the Asian for the Asian)
Wildcard Pick: CF Jacob Young is a defensive specialist
Topeka:
Shrewd trade to shake up the draft moving up to 3rd from 6th for minimal extra and then selecting the OF that they needed in Lawrence Butler. 3B Matt Shaw has an everyday opening with the Cubs and 1st round value at 18th. CF Garrett Mitchell F2 was another nice selection. Got good value throughout the draft.
Grade: A-
Value Pick: Butler, Shaw, and Mitchell
Wildcard: Luis Gil injury, and Kumar Rocker has the potential but has struggled early. Hunter Goodman-col
