Some of our young players didn't live up to their expectations but the experience will only make them better.
Having 14 players on the 60-day IL, with some like Chris Sale and Ozzie Albies be on the list twice was tough. 7 of those 14 players were starting pitchers. When you do not have any or enough SP, it can fall apart quickly as Chicago proved in 2022.
Out of 96 starts from our SP, we got 33 wins. Without a SP, we were 6-16. The off season is about fixing this problem.
Chicago has traded for the return of our 60-day IL players John Means, Kenta Maeda, and Matthew Boyd. Then we traded for Max Fried and Charlie Morton to pair with Mike Soroka. With the 1st overall Draft Pick in 2023, Chicago has already worked out details on a contract to sign SP Spencer Strider from Atlanta to join the Chicago Wildcats. With a young explosive team like the Atlanta Braves, having those Starting Pitchers will solidify our SP. Ian Anderson on Braves will be there in hopes to returning to the starting rotation sometime in the future. (Fried, Strider, Morton, Soroka, and Ian Anderson.)
Putting that group together will fix those issues. And pairing them with deGrom, Wheeler, Chris Sale, Triston McKenzie, Aaron Civale, and Noah Syndergaard along with young flamethrower Daniel Espino from Cleveland makes this one of the most formidable rotations in CJIBL.
Now we can focus on upgrading the rest of the roster, gather some depth and be ready to return from the abyss to prosper once again just like the last 10+ years before 2022.
