May hurt his elbow while delivering a pitch during Saturday's start against the Brewers, and an MRI revealed the bad news. Given the timing, he figures to be sidelined until the second half of the 2022 season. It's a brutal blow to May and to the Dodgers, although from the team's prospective at least they have plenty of depth. Unfortunately, two of the options to replace May in the rotation, David Price (hamstring) and Tony Gonsolin (shoulder), are injured themselves and not close to returning.
Luis Robert won't resume baseball activities for at least 12-16 weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 3 left hip flexor strain.
Brutal. A Grade 3 strain is a complete tear, and it's possible Robert will require surgery to repair the damage. That decision will be made after additional consultations. Even in a best-case scenario, Robert won't resume baseball activities until late July, so it's looking like this might wind up being a season-ending injury. The White Sox, of course, have already lost Eloy Jimenez (pectoral) for possibly the season due to injury. Billy Hamilton and Leury Garcia will see time in center field for the White Sox for now, although they figure to seek outside help.
Sportsnet's Ben Wagner reports that Alejandro Kirk (hip) is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.
Kirk suffered a left hip flexor injury on Saturday while running out a foul ball, and it sounds like the prognosis isn't a good one. The 22-year-old got off to a slow start this season but had been picking it up on the offensive end of late. With Kirk out, Danny Jansen will see the lion's share of starts at catcher for the Jays.
Mets placed INF/OF J.D. Davis on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 2, with a sprained left middle finger.
Davis suffered the injury on Saturday and didn't make enough improvement in the couple days since to avoid an IL stint. It's not clear how long he might be sidelined. Jonathan Villar is in line to handle the bulk of the third base duties while Davis is out.
