Auto mechanics
Wisdom will enter your mind, and knowledge will fill you with delight. Discretion will guard you; understanding will protect you. - Proverbs 2:10-11 (CEB)
The fuel gauge in my car was erratic. The needle was all over the place. Sometimes it showed “Empty” when I knew I had not driven more than 25 miles since filling the gas tank. There were no leaks; the gauge was simply giving an incorrect reading. Knowing the gauge must be wrong but being so accustomed to relying on it, I became confused and concerned. An instrument I had once depended on could no longer be trusted. Eventually, I took the car to a mechanic who diagnosed and fixed the problem.
This experience reminded me that while worldly measures or indicators can give us false or inaccurate readings, God’s word never does. When we are confused or find some “wisdom” of the world to be untrustworthy, we can go to God’s word to find help; we can rely on God’s superior wisdom by praying for God’s guidance.
Just as I eventually took my car to a trusted mechanic for help with this issue, it is important that we ask our omniscient God for discernment and direction and remain alert for God’s answer in whatever form it may come.
