Hardships
Drew Bertussi (California, USA)
The psalmist prayed, “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” - Psalm 61:2 (NIV)
As I was growing up, my parents seemed to have a pretty good relationship. But they had hardships throughout their 22 years of marriage. Unfortunately, they separated when I was a freshman in high school.
I felt overwhelmed and worried about the future. I worried about what other people might think. Will I be picked on for having divorced parents? Will people judge my mom for divorcing my dad? Before the news got out, these thoughts constantly ran through my head. I knew my life would never be the same afterward. I never imagined something like this would ever happen to me.
Then I began to remind myself that God will always be there to help me through my hardships, through all my stress and negative thoughts. I also felt peace, knowing that the one relationship that’s constant and never-ending is the relationship I have with God. Psalm 61:2-4 reminds me that God will lead me through this difficult time in my life. God will never leave us to fend for ourselves.
