A good example for other royals. Set your boundaries and know when your time in the royal spotlight is up. Some advanced ageing royals don't seem to grasp that concept and keep going to a point where 'sense of duty' actually becomes rather pathetic when you can barely walk and talk and 99% of the people in your presence actually have no clue who you are.
What a strange comment on multiple fronts.
The Duchess did not step back because she felt "her time in the royal spotlight was up," but because she felt a new, more fulfilling calling.
A sense of duty is never pathetic, nor is their work any less worthy because they don't generate headlines, social media clicks, or be as close to the forefront of the public's consciousness as they once were.
If Royal Duties were limited to the people that 99 per cent of the public knows, for better or worse, that would bring forth a whole other set of problems.
