Is it customary for the monarch to give an Honour to the clergy member (usually the Archbiship of Canterbury, of course) who presided at their coronation or is this something new on that part of HM?

No, it's not something new by the King. Geoffrey Fisher the then Archbishop of Canterbury was created Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order in 1953 after the Coronation of the late Queen.
