The King wore the collar of the Garter, the stars of the Garter and (I believe) the Thistle, the sash of the Royal Victorian Order, and the Royal Victorian Chain.
Following normal precedence, he would wear the collar of the Garter and the sash of the Thistle. If for some reason he wanted to wear a different sash, both the Order of the Bath and the Order of St Michael and St George are higher in precedence than the Royal Victorian Order.
He never received the Royal Victorian Order or the Royal Victorian Chain as Prince of Wales, so this was the first occasion for him to wear these, perhaps that's why (though the same is true of the GCMG).
Does anyone have any reliable reason why HMTK wore the sash if the RVO? My understanding is that he wore the collar of the Tgistie so the sash should have been from “ the next highest order entitled to wear”… FYI it’s the bain of my existence trying to figure out sashes ( and I know the regs l )
We had the full Pomp and The Queen wore the Royal Diadem, as I thought she would.
Some screencaps I took during the BBC coverage.
The Queen wore her Coronation dress as well as the Royal Diadem.
Their Majesties then added their Robes of State and the King the Imperial State Crown.
I think the corridor was made wider. The King had four pages and The Queen two.
An interesting move was at the entrance to the House of Lords. They split, the King going in one entrance and the Queen going in the other. I remember that the late Queen and the late Duke of Edinburgh entered together through the one entrance. Anyway a change.
