I was surprised by this question:
Is it a legal requirement to have the Head of Commonwealth on Australian coins?
King Charles III is the Head of State in Australia, as was Queen Elizabeth II.
I would have thought that was the reason for using their effigies.
Some republicans do dispute the Head of State matter.
