Re: St. Edward's Crown - and its use since 1689
King Edward VII had intended to revive the tradition of being crowned with St Edward's Crown in 1902, but on coronation day he was still recovering from an operation for appendicitis. Hence the use of the Imperial State Crown. King George V decided to honour his father's intention and the St.Edward's Crown was used at his coronation and has been since then.
