I shall consider myself told ! I was simply surprised, The
Late Queen made a point of inviting the extended royal family to all the " big " evevts , many were State Occasions , Thanksgiving Services at St Paul's and Westminster Abbey come to mind. Things are going to be different now .
Most importantly it's a STATE OCCASION not a family gathering...
The members of the extended Royal Family you refer to are the grandchildren of his mother's first cousins. They have no role in the monarchy and live normal lives. How many of the grandchildren of your parents' cousins do you invite to work events?
If you take into account that he has not invited all those he is the godfather of, then cutting these distant relatives is not very surprising.
With the decision to not build large tribunes in the abbey the number of guests is limited. Only a third of the number that attended the previous coronation can be invited. That means choices have to be made.
Ahhh... my password issues seem to have magically resolved !!!
I was very disappointed to read ( DM today ) that more members of the extended Royal Family have not been invited tomorrow. I understand wanting to reduce the numbers of peers ... but family...who have been to almost everything all the time?? I guess room was needed for Ant and Dec ( I guess they will be jumping infront of a mic and camera at any opportunity)
