Frederick, Prince of Wales was the first duke of Edinburgh. I think the holders have been interesting men.
Good call, forgot about him. Still, re-inforces my point that all holders so far have been royal.
And as Frederick predeceased his father, the Dukedom of Edinburgh was inherited by his eldest son George, and only merged with the Crown when George succeeded his grandfather as King George III.
