I'm staying away from the hereditary aspect of scoliosis, and personally more interested by the fact that when RIII's skeletal remains were discovered, the condition of the spine indicated enough curvature for it to be a case of scoliosis - but at the same time, nowhere near the degree which popular or misleading accounts of those times suggested. One of the very first films I ever saw as a child was "Richard III", and I remember also the natural horror at someone bent over to that degree which the filmmakers had Laurence Olivier positioned in! When in fact it was just a case of scoliosis where one shoulder had become higher than the other.

Intriguingly, our reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II has the same.
It is known that Scoliosis can be hereditary. If Richard III was afflicted it possible that the children of his brother Edward IV may have had the gene and it has passed down the royal line. So, it is not beyond reason to assume that the late Queen was afflicted, mildly. The most well known recent royal with Scoliosis is Princess Eugenie who displayed her surgery scar proudly at her wedding.
