King Charles III turns 74 today and is already the fifth longest lived reigning monarch in British history currently behind only George II (76), George III (81), Victoria (81) and his recently deceased mother Elizabeth II (96) whom he has a long way to go to catch up with but given that both his parents lived well into their nineties and a grandmother reached triple figures genetics is on his side. Had his great-uncle Edward VIII remained on the throne he would have been pushed into sixth place as Edward lived to 77.
Just thought I'd mention it. Got my stats nerd hat on today!
Actually, interesting - but this did also make me wonder the opposite question: who is considered the shortest reigning English monarch? We all know about Lady Jane Grey, but I'm not sure if she was ever "de jure" a queen. So if Jane Grey is not eligible in that category of shortest reigning, then would it be Edward V? Or another?
